Carrying a concealed handgun involves much more than simply purchasing a holster and covering your firearm with a shirt or jacket. Responsible concealed carry requires the right equipment, an understanding of the law, safe and consistent handling skills, and the judgment to recognize when a firearm should—or should not—be used.

 

First Gun’s Intro to Concealed Carry Course is designed for handgun owners with little to no experience carrying concealed. This four-hour course bridges the gap between owning a handgun and beginning to carry it responsibly, safely, and confidently.

 

Through classroom instruction, guided hands-on practice, and realistic decision-making exercises, students will receive a practical introduction to the responsibilities and tactics involved in concealed carry.

Students may bring their own handgun to use during the course and are encouraged to do so (all firearms will be personally inspected and cleared by the instructor immediately upon arrival). Practicing with the firearm and holster you actually intend to carry can help reveal equipment, comfort, concealment, and accessibility issues before you begin carrying regularly.

However, you do not need to already own a handgun or concealed-carry holster to take this course. For students who are still exploring their options and want to use the class to help determine which firearm, holster, and concealment method may be right for them, our All-Inclusive Option provides a training handgun and access to several concealed-carry holster options for use during the course.

 

This is not a live-fire course. No shooting will take place. No live ammunition will be used during the course. All hands-on exercises focus on safe handling, drawing mechanics, concealment, tactics, and decision-making.

 

This course is designed for those who:

• Are considering carrying a concealed handgun

• Have little or no experience carrying concealed

• Recently purchased a holster or concealed-carry setup

• Want to learn how to safely draw from concealment

• Want a better understanding of concealed-carry laws and responsibilities

• Want an introduction to defensive decision-making before attending more advanced training

• Prefer to develop foundational skills in a controlled, non-live-fire environment

Students should already understand the basic rules of firearm safety and be familiar with the basic operation of their handgun. Those who have little or no handgun experience are encouraged to begin with First Gun’s Basic Handgun Course before attending this class.
